A DUNFERMLINE teen and his band will be sharing the stage with the world-famous Red Hot Chilli Pipers after winning a hot music competition.

Despite never actually rehearsing together face-to-face before, the Sonorous claimed the top prize at the Wake Up Scotland competition, also taking away £1,000 for their efforts.

The talented Tom Macfadyen is part of the six-piece band that wowed the judges and is also wrote one of the songs used in their mashed-up medley for the contest.

The Dollar Academy graduate is about to start a course in composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The 18-year-old told the Press: "We were just absolutely over the moon to win!

"When the winners were being announced, we were all on a call with each other and we're just screaming with excitement!

"It's very exciting that we will get to play with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and it's an incredible honour."

Aiming to keep kids focused on music while schools are out, there were performances by 17 bands featured on the Chilli's Facebook page with the grand final taking place on the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust’s Facebook site.

As reported in the Press recently, Jacqueline Gibson and Brooklyn Morris, from Inverkeithing High, joined Burntisland and District Pipe Band to claim second place.

Tom added: "We only formed just before lockdown so have never been able to meet.

"One of my friends asked me if I would record them on the pipes as part of their Higher and he really liked what I did with it so asked me if I wanted to be part of the band.

"But quite a few of us have been in the National Youth Choir together although we live across Scotland.

"We plan to keep the momentum going and I'm certainly looking forward to actually playing with them in person!"
