A SUMMER competition will see a local picked to design a new crest for Kelty.

Anyone from the community, including wee ones and grown-ups, can get involved!

It has been organised by K-ART and Kelty Street Art in conjunction with ‘Wha’s Fae Kelty?’ Facebook group.

The winning design will be used at community events and celebrations including the village’s annual gala day.

Donna Forrester, from Kelty Street Art, said: “It all started on the ‘Wha’s Fae Kelty?’ page, when a post asked if Kelty had a flag and if our group could help if it didn’t.

“We were happy to accept the challenge but thought it would be better if the community got involved.

“So anyone can come up with a design and as I have a background in graphic design I will make it a reality.”

The crest must mean something to the people of Kelty and suggestions for the design includes mining symbols, the Kelty cross, woods, trees, brass/pipe bands and Kelty Hearts FC.

The design can be no larger than an A4 piece of paper. Even if you’re no good at drawing then you can still submit a written proposal.

The winner will get a £30 Art Shop voucher.

Donna added: “I think people have been talking about identity, particularly with all that they have been doing to look after each other during this difficult time.

“It really came out how people are feeling at the moment and they’re proud of their community.

“We definitely wanted to make sure it was accessible for all and that’s why even if you just have a written idea we can make the concept a reality.

“We’re hoping it is successful and will give something creative for people to get engaged with over the summer.”

Please send your entries to keltycrest@gmail.com by July 31. Hard copies can be handed in at Costcutters on Cocklaw Street.
