A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic accident on the A985. 

The one vehicle crash happened at around 5.35am this morning and a 61-year-old driver was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by emergency services. 

The A985 remains closed in both directions at Cairneyhill and a diversion is in place through Torryburn. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.35am on Friday, 31 July, 2020, officers received report of a one car road crash on the A985 between Cairneyhill roundabout and Kincardine Bridge.

"Emergency services attended and the 61-year-old male driver has been taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

"The road is currently closed between Cairneyhill Roundabout and Kincardine junction.”

Traffic Scotland said it's unknown how long the road will be closed. 

They said: "Drivers are advised that the A985 (Kincardine Road) is closed in both directions at Cairneyhill due to a road traffic incident, please use caution on approach to area and follow signed diversion."
