THE “COMPLETELY petty” actions of a Dunfermline man after a domestic dispute have resulted in him being fined.

Jay Clelland, 29, of McClelland Crescent, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that between April 30 and May 3 at North Urquhart Place, Dunfermline and elsewhere, he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner and without permission he changed the identification names on a CCTV camera system to offensive terms and repeatedly sent his partner abusive text messages and voice messages.

Depute fiscal Gill Currie said the couple had been together for seven years but had separated last year.

They had been living together during the lockdown but on April 30 an argument took place and he was asked to leave.

He did so but returned later to the address and removed all four tyres from her car.

He had also adjusted the car’s security CCTV system changing the ID names on the cameras to abusive terms.

On Sunday May 3 the woman began to receive a “barrage” of abusive text messages and phone calls from Clelland, added the depute.

Defence solicitor Gordon Martin said: “There had been a relatively minor argument and he was asked to leave.

“He did so but he had just paid for new alloy tyres for her car. He returned to remove these tyres and replaced them with the original ones.

“She had posted on social media that he had left her ‘tyre-less’ but this was not the case.

“The security cameras have an audio function as well as a video one and he eavesdropped on a conversation she had about him with others.

“Their comments were scathing in their assessment of him and he accepts this put his nose out of joint.

“He had been consuming alcohol when he started sending the messages. They later reconciled.”

Sheriff Alastair Brown told Clelland his actions had been “completely petty”.

He also pointed out that he had previous domestic offences and warned him against any repeat, warning him: “If you come back before me, you won’t enjoy what happens.”

The sheriff fined Clelland £200.
