BABCOCK staff at Rosyth Dockyard were sent home last Thursday after a visitor falsely tested positive for COVID-19.

A worker told the Press that staff had been told to "stand down" and were not to go to work for the remainder of the day on July 30 – this included both day and nightshift.

Babcock confirmed on Thursday evening that a visitor to the Rosyth site had tested positive for coronavirus but was displaying no symptoms of the virus.

However, it transpired that the test result was false.

Precautionary measures saw staff sent home so that a deep clean could be carried out.

Operations were back up and running the following day and NHS Scotland's Test and Protect team were informed.

A spokesperson for Babcock said: “The initial COVID-19 test on the individual who visited our Rosyth site last week produced a false positive result. The subsequent NHS COVID-19 test was negative.

“The health and safety of everyone on our site is our highest priority and we will continue to ensure that all COVID-19 protocols and precautions remain in place.”
