Duloch spiderman takes on epic 48.5 mile run!

Fresh off the back of running a marathon with the West Fife superheroes, Dave Roper has decided he'll push himself even further to run the 49 miles between the two Central Belt cities in the name of charity.

Dave, aka Duloch Spiderman, has gathered a mass of supporters during lockdown when he began running around Duloch cheering the community up, donning the famous red tights and mask as part of his daily run.

His idea inspired dozens of other superheroes to join across West Fife and they have been fundraising for Calaiswood School, which Dave's son attends, as well as Edinburgh Sick Kids hospital.

This time, cash raised will be split between the Edinburgh Sick Kids and Glasgow Sick Kids hospitals.

Dave, 37, told the Press: "After we did the big run, I started thinking about what more I could do and running in between the two will be a good way to recognise both the hospitals.

"A marathon is the furthest I have ever run so I am nervous but excited.

"I think it will be a case of putting one foot in front of the other until I get there!

"I think it's going to be mentally challenging rather than anything else but I have run every day for the whole of lockdown so I feel good about it.

"I'm hoping the adrenaline will just keep me going and hopefully a few beeps along the way as I run along in my fancy dress!"

In just two days, the challenge had already raised £2,000.

Meanwhile, the superheroes have raised an incredible £12,000 for Calaiswood School during lockdown. Since day one, Dave has run more than 700 miles (and counting) as Spiderman and as part of the West Fife superheroes, and has also been nominated for a Pride of Britain award for Community Spirit.

Dave will be setting off in Edinburgh on Sunday at 6am and hopes to complete the 49 miles in around nine-and-a-half to 11 hours.

"I'm hoping I can get back in time to have a guilt-free dinner!" Dave added.
