A Glasgow head teacher has detailed the "fairly low key" changes that pupils can expect upon their return to school.

Head teacher of the Bellahouston Academy Ian Anderson believes the school is "as ready as it can be" to welcome back pupils on Wednesday.

He explained that there will be differences with how the pupils and teachers will be able to interact due to social distancing rules.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, he added: "They will notice a stricter approach to the one-way system that already exists in this and in many other schools.

"They will notice the presence of hand sanitiser about, doors will be open and windows will be open where possible in the Scottish climate. That is to introduce ventilation.

"There will be a number of fairly low key changes that they will notice and there will be all of the usual reminders to pupils about hand hygiene when they go to the toilet and so on.

The head teacher explained that the main priority will be to "reconnect" with the pupils.

He believes that the school will be able to adapt to any unforeseen issues.

"I think we are as ready as we can be under the circumstance. Over the summer we spent a great deal of time putting together our plans. To a great extent these were plans that were in meant for a part-time return.

"But this has changed on July 30 with the announcement that all pupils would be returning.

"In line with that, of course, we have changed our plans to make sure when pupils return under a phased return, which is what we are going to be doing in this school, that we are as ready as we can be under the circumstance.

"We are quite clear that there will be a number of circumstances that we haven't envisaged and which we will respond to on a day to day basis once the customers return on Wednesday."
