A DANGEROUS driver who caused a woman serious injuries in a horrific crash near Kincardine has had his sentence altered to allow him to work in a restaurant.

Liam McDaid’s action resulted in the female driver of another car having to be cut free from the vehicle.

McDaid, from Dunfermline, was 18 when he pulled out of a queue of traffic, overtook when was it was unsafe to do so and caused a head-on collision.

Other vehicles had been forced to take evasive action before McDaid smashed into a car driven by a woman taking her dog for a training class at Devilla Forest, near Kincardine.

The woman’s vehicle left the road and careered into a tree, leaving her with multiple fractures.

The court was told that another motorist who had to take evasive action commented: “Look at that idiot”, just before the collision.

McDaid admitted that on August 16, 2018, on the A985 at a point close to Devilla Forest, Kincardine, he caused serious injury to the woman by driving a car dangerously.

He overtook when it was unsafe to do so, crossed onto the opposing carriageway, causing oncoming vehicles to take evasive action, and thereafter he collided with a car, causing it to spin off the road and collide with a tree, causing extensive damage, and causing the driver to become trapped and sustain serious injuries.

McDaid, 20, of Tarmachan Close, was sentenced at Dunfermline Sheriff Court earlier this year by Sheriff Alastair Brown to a six-month restriction of liberty order and banned him from driving for 18 months and until he passes the extended test.

McDaid applied to the court to have his ‘tag’ curfew times of 7pm to 7am altered to allow him to work in a restaurant.

Sheriff Brown agreed to set new restriction times so that McDaid now has to be at home from 11.30pm to 9am until the end of the order.
