A THIEF who broke into a nursing home worker’s car during lockdown was jailed today for 18 months.

Gavin Deans was snared heavily drunk outside the Applecross Nursing Home in April this year.

The 28-year-old had only been out of jail two days before being spotted hovering in the car park at 3am.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard he was approached by the car owner who spotted his driving licence fall from Deans’ pocket.

Deans had also stolen a quantity of cash and a phone charger which had been kept in the glove box.

A 999 call was made and an officer later recovered a kitchen knife from his jacket.

Deans was arrested and held in custody before pleading guilty to the theft and the unlawful possession of a knife in a public place.

Lawyer Paul Sutherland, defending, told the court Deans has similar previous convictions.

Sheriff Alan Mackenzie told the court Deans must do 190 days of his earlier sentence before starting his latest term.
