A BALLOON release to pay tribute to three-year-old Robyn Knox, killed last week after being hit by a car, will take place in Townhill this weekend.

The parents of Robyn have invited the public to attend as part of a memorial to the wee girl which coincides with plans to find out the gender of their twins due this year.

Tragically, Robyn, from Cardenden, died on August 3 in hospital after she was struck by a blue Nissan Micra on Main Street, Townhill.

Locals are encouraged to bring a balloon along to release at 6pm on Saturday at Townhill Park.

Meanwhile, this week a fundraiser to cover the costs of Robyn's funeral set up by her uncle Paul Marshall reached more than £17,000.

Robyn's parents posted on Facebook: "As a lot of you may be aware, Robyn is going to be a big sister at the end of the year.

"Before this horrific tragedy struck our lives, we had planned to do a gender reveal with our baby girl and family so we could all find out the babies' gender together.

"Of course we have decided to cancel this as it’s still too raw to be having a party celebration. We have decided instead to have a balloon release in her memory on Saturday 15th August at Townhill Park, at 6pm.

"We will find out the gender of the babies on Monday. At the balloon release, we will have a balloon to release for Robyn along with two bags of balloons for the twins, the colour of their gender to release at the same time.

"This will allow Robyn to find out the gender of her babies at the same time as everyone else just like was supposed to happen. We felt this fitting as we don’t want anyone to know before her.

"We welcome you to join us and bring your own balloons to release. Our baby girl deserves the best as that’s what she was."

Heartbroken mum Danielle Falconer expressed her anger after a fraudster set up a fake fundraising page pretending to be Robyn's uncle Paul, who is going to be walking the West Highland Way.

The fake account was quickly deactivated and those who had donated were refunded by GoFundMe – Police Scotland also confirmed they were looking into the matter.

Danielle described the fraudster as "sick" and urged locals not to donate to the fake page.

A GoFundMe spokesperson said: "This user has been banned from our platform and was never able to touch a penny of the funds he raised. All donors have been refunded.

"No funds are ever released until we are absolutely sure they are getting to the intended beneficiary."

Following calls for action from the community triggered by Robyn's death, there are now plans for Fife Council officers to look at improving the safety of the village.

As previously reported by the Press, Townhill Community Council say they have been asking for road improvements at the scene of the tragic accident for the last eight years.

Locals feel that the view of both pedestrians and passing motorists is restricted severely by cars parked outside the shops.

Danielle hopes that changes will take place to stop another family facing the heartbreak they are going through.

She said: "Really upsetting to know that this has been something Townhill community have pushed for eight years.

"It has taken the loss of our baby for things to possibly change. As much as that is truly heartbreaking for us, we hope it can stop another family experiencing the same pain we are.

"If anyone can fix or change anything from our tragedy it’s these people doing something about that road."

The funeral of Robyn is to be held on August 20 at Dysart Cemetery at 11am. Due to current restrictions, family members only can attend the service.
