A DRINK-DRIVER who was more than three times over the limit crashed into railings in Dunfermline then failed to report the accident.

Ross Sharp, 35, of Main Street, Kingseat, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He previously admitted that on April 11, he drove a vehicle in Shields Road, Dunfermline, and had an accident whereby he collided with metal railings, causing damage, and did not report this.

He also admitted that, at the time, he was driving having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Jill Currie said that at around 12.30am, residents in Shields Road heard a screeching of tyres and then a loud bang.

When they looked outside, they saw a car had left the road and struck metal railings. Two males got out of the car to inspect the damage and both appeared to be staggering.

The court heard that one of the witnesses shouted from their house that they were going to phone the police. Sharp and the other man walked away from the scene. He was later traced and identified himself as being the driver of the crashed car.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “His position is that this was a poor decision taken after an argument at home.”

The court was told Sharp had a previous conviction for drink-driving from 2011.

Sheriff Alastair Brown banned him from driving for three years and fined him £700.
