A HALBEATH man was caught drink-driving on the Queensferry Crossing when more than three times over the limit.

John Shields, 43, of Lyneburn Crescent, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on July 26, on the Queensferry Crossing, he drove having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Jill Currie said the car being driven was seen “swerving across the road” by police officers on patrol and he was told to pull over.

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff said that, at that time, his client had just lost a close family member to coronavirus. “Driving on that occasion was an error of judgement on his part,” he added.

Sheriff Alastair Brown fined Shields £500 and banned him from driving for a year.
