A CLIMBER was airlifted to hospital after falling from cliffs in Aberdour yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

Emergency service raced to the scene at Hawkcraig Point just after 12.30pm.

After a joint operation which included the Scottish Ambulance Service, Police Scotland, Kinghorn Coastguard, South Queensferry Coastguard and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter, the casualty was flown to hospital.

The extent of the climber's injuries are not known.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed they received a call at around 12.35pm to assist with a man injured after falling near Hawkcraig Road in Aberdour and added that the man was taken to hospital in Edinburgh.

Neil Chalmers, from Kinghorn RNLI, said their crew was paged to support the rescue operation.

"We were initially requested to provide safety cover as the tide was flooding and the casualty was on the beach at the base of the cliff," he said.

"On arrival, two of our volunteer crew went ashore and helped to move the casualty in a stretcher to the Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance - SCAA helicopter which had landed on the lawn of a nearby restaurant.

"The casualty was then taken to hospital in Edinburgh."
