NHS Fife have confired that three people with links to the Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Dunfermline have tested positive for COVID-19.

All confirmed cases have mild symptoms and are currently isolating at home.

The Press reported yesterday (Tuesday)that a second person had tested positive.

That has is now three confirmed cases in the space of less than two weeks at the West Fife warehouse.

Contact tracers from the Test and Protect Team are in the process of identifying and tracing the known contacts of the positive cases to provide public health support and advice.

NHS Fife’s Health Protection Team is currently looking into whether there is any potential link between the cases, however, there say there is no evidence at this stage to suggest any wider transmission of the virus to other staff working at the facility.

Amazon said yesterday that they are supporting the second individual who is now in quarantine.

An Amazon worker had contacted the Press out of concern that cases could be on the rise in the building.

The company say that is their "priority" to ensure the health and safety of their employees, and expect to invest approximately $4 billion globally on COVID-related initiatives between April and June.

This includes spending more than $800 million in the first half of the year on COVID-19 safety measures.

To date, Amazon have made over 150 process updates - from enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures - to keep people safe.

They've also distributed personal protective gear, such as masks for our employees and implemented temperature checks across our operations worldwide.

An Amazon spokesperson said: “We are supporting the individual who is now in quarantine.

“Since the early days of this situation, we have worked closely with local authorities to proactively respond, ensuring we continue to serve customers while taking care of our associates and we’re following all guidelines from local officials about the operations of our buildings.

"We have implemented proactive measures at our facilities to protect employees including increased cleaning at all facilities, maintaining social distance in the FC, and adding distance between drivers and customers when making deliveries.”
