A pensioner is fighting for her life after being hit by a car this morning. 

The 83-year-old woman was crossing the carriageway on Northgate Road when she was struck by a Land Rover Discovery around 7.45am. 

She was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where her condition is described as critical. 

The woman driving the car was not injured. 

Sergeant Grant MacIver, Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said:"Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything to get in touch.

“In particular, I'm keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage or who saw either the pedestrian or the car before the crash. Please call us on 101, quoting incident number 1044 of Saturday, September 19."
