Leaflets with conspiracy theories about the coronavirus pandemic have been delivered to properties across Dunfermline.

The information references Dr Vernon Coleman - who has been widely discredited - and states why the coronavirus pandemic is a hoax.

Dunfermline and West Fife MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville, has strongly criticised those who have been delivering the conspiracy theory leaflets across the local area and says they falsely allege the COVID-19 outbreak is a hoax.

The MSP says the document features a host of inaccurate and misleading claims that attempt to downplay the seriousness of the virus.

Although there are no suggestions that the leaflet is by Dr Coleman, the author has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority and censured by the Press Complaints Commission.

Over 2,500 people in Scotland have died after testing positive for COVID-19, with thousands more hospitalised due to the virus.

Shirley-Anne said: "These leaflets are highly irresponsible and are designed to frighten and alarm residents with baseless claims.

"Thankfully I'm sure most people will ignore them.

"However, the individual or individuals delivering these should be ashamed of themselves.

"Let me be clear; this virus is very real and has had a devastating impact on our nation's health and well-being.

"Nobody wants to impose restrictions and I can totally understand how frustrating it is to not be able to see our family and friends as much as we'd like to.

"These decisions are made to protect people and stop COVID-19 from running rampant within our communities.

"If you receive one of these leaflets through your letterbox then my advice would be to put it in the bin where it belongs."
