WEST FIFE councillors have been shortlisted for three categories in the upcoming 2020 national Councillor Awards.

Fife's education convener, Cllr Fay Sinclair, who represents Dunfermline South, has been celebrated for steering policy on 1,140 hours early years delivery and blended learning for 50,000 Fife schoolchildren while also home-schooling her own three young sons – and is in the running for Champion of Education.

Dunfermline North representative Cllr Ian Ferguson could take home the Rural Community Champion award, while Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty councillor Rosemary Liewald has been shortlisted for the COVID-19 Hero category for her work as chair of Health and Social Care.

The awards are the only national ceremony to celebrate the contributions of councillors and 2020 marks the third year of showcasing their achievement.

Competition was extremely tight again this year with a record number of nominations (more than 100) received across the eight categories that celebrate the varied work of councillors.

The winners will be decided by a panel of judges composed of senior councillors and officers as well as leading stakeholders from across the sector.

Due to the ongoing health crisis, this year’s ceremony will take place virtually on Tuesday, November 24, with special speakers and guests.
