A DUNFERMLINE man is hoping to inspire others to pursue their dream job after rising through the ranks at Amazon.

Craig Urquhart, 34, has worked for the technology company for almost 10 years and after starting as a temp associate in 2011, he is now a regional quality manager, working across nine sites.

He has been encouraging colleagues to see where their career could lead them after Amazon in Dunfermline teamed up with the campaign for Learning at Work Week 2020.

It shines the spotlight on the importance and benefits of continual learning and development so employees can enhance their careers.

Currently, Amazon offer their staff opportunities to study and pay for tuition and they have also taken on 700 apprentices this year in fields ranging from automation engineering and IT to digital marketing and fashion-buyers.

Explaining his journey, Craig said: “Before joining Amazon, I was a retail manager, but I needed to find a new position because my wife and I were moving from Aberdeen back to Dunfermline. I saw a temporary role advertised at Amazon and decided to apply.

“It was only intended to be a stopgap for me as I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do. It turns out that I found what I really wanted to do at Amazon and the rest, as they say, is history!

“I’ve loved my time with the company and the many different training and development opportunities have made it possible for me to progress from a temporary associate to a regional manager."

Amazon Dunfermline site leader Jamie Strain added: “Craig’s progress at Amazon has been inspiring for us all and it’s fantastic to see how he has grown since joining us."
