A GROUP of Inverkeithing residents have teamed up to tackle rubbish in the town.

A monthly litter pick has been taking place since the group was formed in August and locals are being invited to get involved.

Paula Hooper started the initiative after seeing similar operations elsewhere in Fife and is keen to see it thrive in her hometown.

After only three collections, they have already bagged multiple sackfuls of rubbish with items ranging from face masks to bags of human faeces.

“I don’t understand the mentality of people who drop stuff but there is no point in just complaining about it,” she said. “We are only at our third month and we decide on a different part of Inverkeithing each time.

“One clean up between Rosyth and Inverkeithing, pickers were on the hill towards the motorway and there were even bags of human faeces that had been dumped.

"We think this is from truckers. One of the girls has contacted the local councillors to ask for a bin there – we don’t think it is local people doing that.”

The next clean up is on November 1 and anyone wanting to get involved can get more details at the Inverkeithing/Dalgety Bay Coastal Path Pickers Facebook page.

“We are only at our third month and we decide on a different part of Inverkeithing each time,” added Paula.

“There’s a Fife litter picker page which we advertise on as well and there are several groups that feed into that.

“Fife Council’s Safer Communities team supply litter pickers and bags and they collect the bags as well.”
