CROSSFORD is set to say goodbye to the village Co-op store after its sale was agreed.

The shop has been a staple of the community for the past eight years but a new business will soon take its place.

Greens, part of the award-winning Fife-based convenience store operator Eros Retail, have acquired the Main Street shop.

The store has been in the Co-op name since September 2012 after the company purchased David Sands.

However, that will come to an end next Saturday, November 14.

Greens of Crossford will then open at 7am on Tuesday, November 17.

The store will not be too dissimilar for customers, with the store team transferring over and Greens of Crossford continuing to stock Co-op food products through Greens supply partner Nisa Retail, a subsidiary of the Co-op group.

Dougie Anderson, commercial manager at Eros Retail, said: "Crossford has a fantastic local community spirit and we are excited to be retaining the existing store teams and engaging with the local community over the coming weeks and months to deliver an exceptional, customer focussed shopping experience."

The store opening hours will be 7am-10pm, seven days a week.

As part of the transition, significant investment and upgrades will be made to the store over the coming weeks by Greens including various energy efficiency measures.

Furthermore, the store will have new additions such as an in-store Cupar-based, Fisher & Donaldson bakery concession.

It will also stock products from the new and very popular Crossgates business Wicked Cheesecake.

Edinburgh-based Breadwinner bakery will also come to North of the Forth for the first time.

Harris Aslam, director at Eros Retail, said: "We are thrilled to be opening three new Greens stores in Fife in November and look forward to working very closely with store teams, customers and local suppliers to retain the strong performing elements of the existing stores whilst introducing lots of exciting new products and concessions."

Ahead of their departure, a Co-op spokesperson confirmed the sale to the Press.

They stated: "The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum and while this often involves opening new stores, we also have to take difficult decisions. It has been agreed to sell our store in Crossford.

"The well-being of our colleagues is a number one priority and we are pleased to confirm that they have the opportunity to transfer to the new operator under TUPE arrangements and are being fully supported throughout the sale. We would like to thank the community for its support over the years.”
