A NINTENDO Switch, laptops and bikes are just some of the toys that have been gifted by generous West Fifers who responded to a Press-backed Christmas appeal.

To help kids celebrate the season, we launched a Christmas toy appeal by SHIELD Fife, who want to help families feeling the pinch.

And in just one week they have been inundated with donations from generous West Fifers!

In the appeal, which the Press helped launch on last week's front page, you can gift a toy or donate to a community fund which will go towards paying for activities for vulnerable kids throughout the year or sponsor a pensioner to get a takeaway every week.

Sarah Keeble, the founder of SHIELD, said: "We have had a lot of messages to the group asking how people can help and lots of cash donations as well as gifts.

"We've been brought a brand new Nintendo Switch, laptops, bikes, football boots, beautiful handcrafted gifts – I mean people out there are just amazing!

"And this is all since the Press article on Thursday so we have definitely seen a response."

SHIELD have also been helped in other ways too – one person offered to pay for the volunteers' fuel expenses and they have also been gifted a car that property company RE/MAX are going to put through an MOT and pay for repairs.

Through the Co-op community fund they have also received £250 in donations which help towards the group's Christmas appeal.

During the festive season, SHIELD will also be setting up a virtual Santa grotto, they’ll deliver meals to pensioners who are alone on Christmas Day and give out hampers.

They are also looking to see if anyone can help with a Christmas float or an accompanied vehicle to spread some cheer around the streets of West Fife.

Sarah added: "We know it's a tough Christmas for everyone so it really is just amazing that people have thought about giving to us, especially when there are lots of other appeals out there too.

"There was one lady who brought us 48 selection boxes raised by money she had made making face masks for people.

"I can see everyone wants to make a difference in some way even if they've only got a small bit of money."

You can still hand in gifts at Louie Brown's in Dalgety Bay or Fife College's office or message the SHIELD group on Facebook to get more information https://www.facebook.com/groups/shielduk.org
