EVERY day in The National we publish one of the best photographs our readers have sent in to pictures@thenational.scot from across Scotland. Here are last week's:
National reader Tor Södergren, from Edinburgh, took this shot of the grounds of Lauriston Castle, one of his family’s favourite places to go for a wander.
Len Clemie of Cupar took this misty shot from at the last lock on the Crinan Canal at the western end, which leads out eventually to the Sound of Jura.
Reader James Cashwell took this snap of a lonely red phone box with an incredible view in Ardnamurchan, Lochaber.

Kenneth Sutherland snapped this ptarmigan with its new fluffy winter boots and white coat on in preparation for the winter weather.
Mike Herd took this tranquil shot at high tide on a calm day on the edge of Loch Fleet, Sutherland.
Brian Ó hEadhra sent us this stunning shot. He said: “Here is a picture I took (on my phone!) last month on Ord Hill on the Black Isle, just below the ancient Pictish fort up the hill. Enjoy!”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
