A TODDLER swim centre could be opening in office space at Carnegie Campus in Pitreavie if plans get the go-ahead.

The pool would be intended for children up to the age of five attending swimming classes.

Applicant Gillian Currie has been operating her swim school out of school, community and hotel pools for the last eight years but, due to the coronavirus pandemic, is now seeking her own premises to continue to make her business viable.

The proposed opening hours would be Monday to Friday, 10am-2.30pm, and Saturday-Sunday between 9am-3pm, for baby and toddler classes with each class having a maximum of six adults and baby pairs.

There would also be occasional later classes between 5-7pm limited to two children per class.

The unit at Dewar House was used previously as a baby and toddler centre.

Ms Currie stated in her application: "I have spent a number of months searching for suitable premises to locate my baby and toddler swim business within.

"My swim school has operated for the last eight years from a variety of school, community and hotel pools.

"However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this is not going to be possible moving forward and the only way to sustain the business is to seek out private premises to continue trading.

"The site has been identified, in part, due to the fact that it has previously been used as a baby and toddler activity centre and so has been subject to a change of use.

"There are no residential properties nearby. I have spoken with the previous owner who has confirmed the site worked well for her toddler classes and parking was not an issue.

"From all the sites we have identified as possibilities for the business, this site by far seems to make most sense in terms of limiting the change of use, managing parking considerations and ensuring safety of site users."

Other sites considered included Dickson Court, Donibristle Industrial Park, Kingsgate Shopping Centre and Gardner Street, but for various reasons were discounted.
