A KELTY man shouted racist abuse after being caught drink-driving.

David Davidson, 40, of Crambeth Place, was almost three times over the limit.

He was ignoring Covid-19 restrictions by being out in the early hours of the morning with no good reason and it has since emerged he also ignored a driving ban.

Davidson appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court. During the hearing it transpired that he does not even have a valid driving licence.

Davidson previously admitted that on May 8 at Crambeth Place, he drove a car having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

He also admitted he acted in a racially aggravated manner by shouting racist abuse.

Davidson further admitted breaching coronavirus restrictions by travelling without reasonable excuse.

Depute fiscal Laura McManus said at 1.30am police were on patrol in Kelty when their attention was drawn to a Ford Fiesta in Main Street.

Having carried out a computer check on the vehicle, the police tried to pull Davidson over but initially he did not stop.

When he eventually did pull over, Davidson got out of his car and “became aggressive, acting in a belligerent manner”, added the depute.

He failed a roadside breath-test and was arrested. He continued with his belligerent behaviour and when put in a police vehicle he said to one of the officers, “You’re a f****** Paki b******”.

Sheriff Charles Macnair unearthed another offence when he spotted that Davidson had previously been banned from driving until he passed the extended test.

He suspected this had not happened and from the dock Davidson admitted that was the case.

However, he was not charged with driving while banned because the Crown were not aware of this, the depute confirmed.

Sheriff Macnair imposed a community payback order with 18 months of supervision and also a six-month restriction of liberty order.

Davidson was further banned from driving for 12 months and fined £122 for the breach of Covid restrictions.
