WHAT'S the best place for a curry in West Fife?

That was the question posed by the Press last week as the country marked British Curry Day last Thursday (December 3).

Never has a question produced such passion as West Fifers hailed their local favourites!

It's no secret that Dunfermline and West Fife is not short of a few curry houses but that doesn't mean that there isn't some stiff competition when it comes to who is top dog.

The area is lucky enough to have a treasure trove of top Indian restaurants that deliver quality dishes.

For many readers, it was hard to choose the best in West Fife and it certainly sparked some lively debate on the Press' social media pages!

Hot favourite Apricot had a phenomenal amount of mentions.

Aaron McHale said: "I’m not a curry person (usually too spicy for me) but Apricot restaurant on Carnegie Drive in Dunfermline does the best korma around."

Well Aaron, a lot of your fellow West Fifers agree ...

Teuchter Lew added: "Apricot is phenomenal."

Lorraine Marshall added: "My dad makes the best curries ... a close second to Apricot."

Apricot is so good that even Kathy Baird had her head swayed after decades elsewhere!

She said: "I went to the Viceroy for 30-plus years. I tried Apricot and wouldn't go anywhere else now."

But it was Dave Kerr who said it all: "We are spoiled in Dunfermline – Ashiqs, Basil and Apricot are all tremendous."

It's not just curry houses that have been around on the Dunfermline scene for many years that got support, new kids on the block such as Dhoom and Basil have been a big hit with West Fifers too.

Other curry establishments who also tallied a huge amount of 'thumbs up' were Khushis, Taste of India in Rosyth, Ashiqs, Everest, and the Royal Bengal.

Ann Ank said: "Taste of India ... great for eating in and takeaway too."

But Ross Ratcliffe thought you should go further afield!

He said: "AJ's in Cowdenbeath is the best around."

But back in West Fife, Dhoom got high praise indeed!

Malcolm Finlayson said: "Dhoom. Hands down best place in Dunfermline to eat."

Dave Maceedee added: "Dhoom any day of the week (except Tuesdays cos it’s shut)."

Followed by Tom Smith: "Dhoom – their street food is amazing."

Jan Parsons was another West Fifer that just couldn't choose! "Khushi's, Ashiqs and the new Panas in Rosyth serves the best korma I've had in a while," she said.

Brian J King said: "I quite like Royal Bengal Tandoori; the staff have always been very polite when we go in."

"Everest for me every time!" Lorraine Mitchell argued.

While Ian Mcleary declared: "Royal Bengal 100 per cent."

Some folk were very passionate about defending their favourite establishment!

Darren Brown said: "No being funny but Ashiq’s is by far the best Indian in the toon and surrounding areas. Taste of India is decent but still not as good as Ashiq’s."
