A ROSYTH man has been sentenced for an assault after “malicious lies” were told about him.

Ryan Douglas, 30, of Lowry Place, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on August 16, at an address in Rosyth, he banged on a door repeatedly, shouted and swore, threatened a man with violence and refused to leave.

He also admitted he assaulted the man by seizing him by the body.

The court was told conflicting versions of what had led up to the incident.

Depute fiscal Jill Currie said Douglas had been in a “casual relationship” with another man for six months after they made contact online.

Douglas’ wife had been told of this relationship and had contacted the man, the court was told.

She said Douglas then went to the man’s house and it was outside that address that the offences took place.

Douglas, who was described as being drunk at the time, had shouted at the man: “You know why I’m here. You f***** me over. You f***** me up”, before grabbing him, the court heard.

However, defence solicitor Elaine Buist said her client’s position was that there was no relationship between them.

“So, he says it’s a malicious lie?” asked the sheriff. The solicitor confirmed this.

The depute responded by saying the Crown’s position remained there was a relationship between the men.

The Crown had classed it initially as a domestic offence against a partner or former partner but this was removed from the charge.

Sheriff Alastair Brown said it was “unsatisfactory” the way the case had been handled. He fined Douglas £335.
