POLICE were called to the scene of a car which had overturned on a road near Dalgety Bay.

They found a man wandering on the country road about a mile away from the crash site.

James Grant admitted charges at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and has now been sentenced.

Grant, 40, of Kingdom Court, Cupar, admitted that on April 5, on the B9157, he drove a car when unfit to do so through drink or drugs. He also admitted he drove without insurance.

Police were called to the scene at around 11.30pm after receiving a report that a Vauxhall Astra had overturned and a male had been seen leaving the vehicle.

Grant was spotted by an officer about a mile from the accident location. The officer saw him appear to throw away an item into a field.

This area was later searched and Grant’s car key was found.

He passed a breath test but his slurred speech and glazed eyes gave the officers the impression he was under the influence of some substance.

Sheriff James Macdonald imposed a fine of £320 and banned Grant from driving for a year.
