Plans for 59 new homes near Masterton Primary School have been given the thumbs up.

The development by Scottish builder Springfield Properties in Dover Heights will see a range of two, three, four and five bedroom homes being offered just off Lapwing Drive.

It was Miller Homes that originally were granted planning permission for 240 new houses but they sold some of the plots to Springfield.

The then sought permission to make amendments to some of the housing types and have just been given the go-ahead by Fife Council for 59 new homes.

As part of this development along with Taylor Wimpey who have permission to build over 200 houses in the area, a two-classroom extension is taking place at Masterton Primary to alleviate capacity problems.

The £1m project by Fife Council is expected to be completed by spring.

Miller and Taylor Wimpey were asked initially by the council to pay £1.9m for a four-classroom extension, until the council admitted last year there had been “some double-counting” in their projections for the area and only two classrooms were needed.

The ongoing development of Dunfermline has given education bosses a headache with more children moving into new estates, with the result that school classrooms are filling up.

Extensions have already been built, or proposed, at Milesmark, St Margaret’s, Pittencrieff, Touch, Townhill, Carnegie and now McLean primary schools while Woodmill High reached full capacity last year.

Lynn Houston, Head of Central Sales at Springfield Properties, said: “We’re very excited to bring a new development to Dover Heights.

“With a range of stunning homes at different sizes and price points, Dover Heights is perfect for couples and larger families alike.

"Nearby transport links to Edinburgh and beyond make it a great location for those looking to stay connected within the central belt, but prefer to live away from the hustle and bustle of a major city.

“Dunfermline is steeped in history and features several fantastic woodland walking routes, including the Masterton Trim Trail, which is just a few steps away from the development.”
