DRIVERS have been warned to expect major disruption for three weeks when work begins on the A92 later this month.

Essential maintenance is planned for the A92 Lochgelly Overbridge with work set to get under way on March 15 and is expected to be finished by April 2.

The project, which is located around a kilometre south of Lochgelly, will involve teams upgrading the current safety barrier system on the overbridge which carries the B9149 over the A92 trunk road between Dunfermline and Kirkaldy, ensuring the structure continues to operate safely for years to come.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the road over the bridge will be closed throughout the duration of the project. Drivers travelling eastbound will be diverted to Chapel junction and westbound traffic will be diverted to the Cowdenbeath junction. The A92 main carriageway will remain fully open throughout the project.

BEAR Scotland North-East representative Ian Stewart said: “This essential maintenance project on the Lochgelly overbridge will help ensure that the structure continues to operate safely for all motorists and functions to the highest standard.

“The planned traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe during this project, however, our teams will do all they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as they can to minimise disruption.

“We thank all road users and the local community for their patience in advance while we carry out these essential repairs. We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
