A traffic order by Fife Council has been made in Townhill in an effort to bring much needed safety measures after the death of a toddler here last summer.

The traffic order is for permanent restrictions around the junction of Loch Street and Main Street as well as a goods vehicle loading bay on Loch Street.

There are also works to widen the footway next to the crossing on Main Street which are programmed for mid March. These will be funded by the Scottish Government and Sustrans 'Spaces for People' programme to coincide with coronavirus measures.

The public have six weeks from the date of issue on February 15 to make further objections are submit questions.

Authorities moved quickly to bring in safety measures after death of three-year-old Robyn Knox, who was knocked down and killed by a car on August 3.

The issue of new traffic regualtions have been an issue of contention in the village since councillor gave the go-ahead for an order to be made back in September.

Parking outside the convenience store will be moved further up the street and some have not been happy about the changes.

Temporary safety bollards that were installed after the accident have been moved twice out of anger.

Local councillor Gavin Ellis said: "Progress is being made with these traffic orders but if people wish to object they can.

"Some residents are not happy but we did not received any objections last time and the majority see this as part of a range of changes.

"A part from the widening of paths, Councillors are still waiting to hear when the rest of the work will happen.

"There was arguments that safety bollards would be enough but there has always been problems in Townhill.

"There has been one fatality and there have been lots of near misses too.

"The decision was made by the councillors and authorities that one death is already one too many and we need to take action now."
