A HEROIC Dunfermline police officer has been awarded for his bravery after confronting a dangerous man, who had stabbed someone outside a pub, despite being alone.

Constable Callum Forbes was waiting for back-up when he raced to the scene of a disturbance.

Information had been passed on to police that the person involved was also responsible for causing potentially life-threatening injuries to a member of the public who had been stabbed outside of a pub in Dunfermline on November 13, 2019.

As soon as he got there, Constable Forbes heard screaming and, despite being alone, entered and confronted the man.

In the face of an extremely hostile environment, he used his communication skills to keep the occupants calm until other officers arrived to support him.

In the end, his courageous actions and awareness led to the arrest of a particularly violent individual.

PC Forbes said: "I am honoured and humbled to receive this recognition because I know that the same dedication and commitment is made by my colleagues every single day, sometimes without the recognition they deserve."

The outstanding achievements and bravery of officers like Constable Forbes and members of the public were recognised and celebrated at the Chief Constable's Bravery and Excellence Awards last week.

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone QPM presented 25 bravery awards to 31 police officers and 16 members of the public.

The thug that PC Forbes confronted was jailed for five years last year after brutally knifing a man who apparently made a jibe about his mum.

Michael Gardiner slashed James Reid right down his chest outside the Guildhall and Linen Exchange pub in Dunfermline on November 13.

A judge heard how the victim was struck just millimetres from vital organs.

Judge Johanna Johnston QC said last year: “This was a vicious attack which followed upon a minor argument with Mr Reid.

“You fooled him into thinking you were going to shake hands with him but instead slashed and stabbed him to the body.”
