A MAN has been given a recorded police warning following an incident where an online video showed staff ejecting a man who tried to film in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline.

The footage showing Alan Newton being threatened and apparently jostled went viral when it went online earlier this month.

Police Scotland said at the time that inquires "were ongoing" but confirmed to the Press this week that action had been taken.

A spokesperson said: “Inquiries were carried out and one man was given a recorded police warning.”

It is not known who was given a warning as neither Police Scotland nor the Kingsgate Shopping Centre have specified.

When the Press first contacted centre manager Neil Mackie about the incident that occurred on March 1, he said they were taking the matter "very seriously".

The incident happened when Mr Newton was told he wasn’t allowed to film inside the centre, which he disputed, and the situation escalated with one member of staff asking him: “Would it be funny if I f****** knocked you out, aye?”

Three members of staff escorted him from the Kingsgate and the footage includes further aggressive exchanges in the five-minute film, with Mr Newton being told to “Shut up you idiot” and told that he’d be arrested if he returned.

He complained of being assaulted and said he would contact the police, adding at one point to the security guards: “I’m filming you for my safety now.”

Security guards at the centre are employed by an SIA ACS-accredited third party supplier, Joint Security Services.

Mr Mackie confirmed with the Press this week that the outcome of any investigation was confidential.

He said: "Our review of all procedures continues in terms of continual improvement.

"In terms of the outcome of any personnel investigation, this would be deemed confidential under GDPR and personnel rights."
