A DUNFERMLINE man who sent offensive comments to his former partner has been fined.
Robert Mitchell, 31, of Golfdrum Street, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on January 14 he sent text messages to his former partner making derogatory comments.
Depute fiscal Freya Anderson-Ward said Mitchell had seen a social media post from his former partner which had a photo of her.
He then sent her a private message saying she was an “attention-seeking slut” and a “slag”.
They had been in a relationship for six years but it had ended last December, the court was told.
Defence solicitor David McLaughlin said the photo had been of the woman along with a friend of Mitchell’s.
“He thought they had formed a relationship. This act was done out of jealousy and on the spur of the moment,” he added.
Sheriff Alastair Brown told Mitchell: “The relationship was finished and it was none of your business who she had taken up with.
"It’s all too easy to send abusive messages by social media.”
He fined Mitchell £420.
