WEST FIFERS got their first taste of normality today (Monday) as shops, gyms, leisure centres and hotels were given the go-ahead to re-open after almost four months.

Dunfermline town centre was a hive of activity as eager shoppers finally got the chance to spend some of their hard-earned cash.

But it was Primark mania that took over with queues appearing as early at 5.30am at the top of the High Street.

Everyone was heading to the store and staff managed queues that went down the hill at New Row.

Shops in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre also reported a good start to trade with pent-up demand seen across all different stores.

Only a couple of brave punters braved the cold, dull start of the day to sit outside for a morning pint at The Guildhall & Linen Exchange, while others were happy to sit and watch the excitement of shoppers on the High Street with a coffee at La Menta.

But as lunchtime hit, more customers were happy to sit outside with a drink and enjoy some dining across different venues in Dunfermline.

However, some places remained shut such as the Seven Kings and Cafe Fresh with no sign of when they might re-open.
