A PUB is making a pitch for a new roof as the existing one is "dangerous" and part of it collapsed recently.

Rab Hamill, who owns Blairhall Village Bar, has applied for planning permission from Fife Council.

He wants to replace the flat roof on the South Avenue pub with a pitched roof with new trusses and roof tiles.

In a statement with the application, Mr Hamill explained: "The existing flat roof is in a poor and dangerous condition. It requires regular maintenance and has water ingress at various locations.

"Part of the roof over the main hall recently collapsed when we had heavy snowfall. The load from the snow collapsed the roof and would have been very dangerous to the public if the public house was open."

He added: "The surrounding buildings on South Avenue all have pitched roofs with Blairhall Village Bar the only building in the neighbourhood with a flat roof.

"This in itself should warrant consent as the proposed pitched roof would blend into the surrounding setting."
