A 34-YEAR-OLD man caught in possession of a Stanley knife in a Dunfermline street has been jailed.
Jason MacDonald, of Broomhead Drive, Dunfermline, appeared from custody at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on April 15 last year, at Carnegie Drive, he was unlawfully in possession of a knife.
Depute fiscal Ron Hay said that just after midnight, a public space CCTV operator observed two males acting suspiciously outside the James Bank homeless hostel.
Police were alerted and shortly afterwards MacDonald was found by officers.
He handed over to them a Stanley knife and was arrested.
Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said his client had a history of self-harming and the reason he had the knife was to injure himself.
The court was told MacDonald was jailed recently for separate offences at Dundee Sheriff Court.
He was given an additional nine months of jail time by Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist for the knife offence.
He observed that MacDonald had two previous convictions for carrying weapons.
