A POOCH from Saline has proved he is top dog after scooping first place in the Press' Perfect Pet competition.

Cavapoo Dave shook off tough competition to land the £350 prize as well as the honour of the Perfect Pet 2021 title.

Owner Evie, nine, along with her mum, Lisa, and Ben Murray, was thrilled that their beloved pup had won.

She immediately treated Dave to some dog cake to celebrate his success on hearing the news and is now planning to treat him to lots of new toys.

Lisa said: "He is a brilliant little dog. I had seen the competition on the Facebook page and I thought Evie would love to see him in the Dunfermline Press. Then my mum said her friends would vote for him."

A budding social media star, Dave has become accustomed to doing videos on social media with voiceovers and used his skills to help him to claim the contest's top prize.

"He put on a bit of an appeal for people to vote for him," added Lisa. "Everyone knows him in Saline. He sits in our living room window and talks to people as they go past.

"He is a mischievous, loving little dog. He is brilliant with Evie. If he hears her crying, he goes running to her."

Brodie, an adorable 11-week-old cockapoo, finished second to claim the £100 runner-up prize, while seven-year-old West Highland terrier Mac was third, winning £50.
