A FACEBOOK group with members from across Dunfermline and West Fife has raised £1,500 for charity.

The Killer Queens, set up two years ago, organised an online fundraiser for the Children with Cancer charity in memory of Azaylia Cain, the daughter of former footballer and reality TV star Ashley Cain.

The group's founder, Laura McConnell, told the Press: "We had lots of people donate stuff. We put the donations up for raffles and made £1,500. I was so proud of that amount.

"It will go to Children with Cancer in memory of Azaylia Cain. Everyone has been following that and when she passed away, we wanted to do something in her memory."

The Killer Queen Group has been helping good causes since it was set up by support worker Laura, from Crosshill, two years ago.

In the past, they have bought winter survival kits to help the homeless, as well as Easter eggs for families in need and last summer raised £300 to lift the spirits of an Abbeyview pensioner who was left terrified after a conman robbed her.

"We are all just like a big family on the group. It is just our own community," added Laura. "There are now 2,500 people on it. We used to do stuff to try and bring members in but we don't need to do that any more. The group is so busy and still really active.

"The majority of the people are from Fife – probably about three-quarters of the members – and we have people from further afield as well."
