WEST FIFERS are being warned to stick to coronavirus restrictions as the region went into level two this week.

Speaking at a meeting of the Fife Partnership Board on Tuesday, NHS Fife's director of public health, Dona Milne, stressed that while good progress was being made on their vaccination programme, COVID-19 still existed in local communities

"The vaccination programme in Fife is going extremely well. We have now administered 218,996 first doses which is quite impressive and 114,447 second doses as of last night (Monday)," she said.

"The team is working on this together and have really pulled together for the benefit of Fife and I think it has worked really well."

After a cluster of cases linked to the coronavirus strain identified in India had been detected in Kirkcaldy, Ms Milne said that the number of asymptomatic testing sites for people who don't have symptoms had been increased.

"We have discussed many times the importance of self-testing," she added. "As always, we have additional support in Fife for people to isolate if they need it. You can get information about that through our website or at the testing sites.

"We still have COVID in our communities. Although the numbers have been lower, we are expecting to see our numbers rise a bit as restrictions have eased.

"I want to remind people how important it is that we continue to follow the restrictions for the level we are in and for people to make use of the testing available to them and to come forward for their vaccinations when invited."
