A HILL OF BEATH man caught downloading illegal images of children claimed he was doing it to help the police.

However, the 21-year-old later broke down and admitted his guilt.

Logan Chapman, of Allan Park, appeared in the dock at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

He admitted that between February 15, 2018, and June 17 last year, at his then home at Braemount, Cowdenbeath, he downloaded indecent photographs of children.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner told the court there were more than 1,900 indecent images on his devices and web searches included terms such as “Lolita”.

Chapman’s family home, where he lived with his parents and siblings, was searched by police, who arrived with a warrant.

Initially, he said he had been “researching the sites so that he could report them to law enforcement agencies” said the depute.

However, he later broke down and admitted he had been searching for images of children. He also admitted he was attracted to children.

Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist called for reports and Chapman will be sentenced on July 8. He was put on the sex offenders' register.
