GREEN-FINGERED West Fifers were able to get their hands on some beautiful plants while also helping to improve the Glen last weekend.

Bedding plants were grown and prepared for sale to the public for the first plant sale in two years because of the impact of COVID and all monies raised will be spent on further improvements to the park.

There have been lots of different projects taking place across the Glen thanks to the hard work of volunteers.

The rock garden has been transformed thanks to a grant of £800 from the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and the efforts of Friends of Pittencrieff Park members Gary and Elaine.

The Pavilion has also had a makeover with the repainting over the exterior building and restaurant. As part of the upgrade, the Friends have adopted the surrounding plant containers at the site.

Catering manager Florence Hutchison has provided funds for the initiative and they will be used to replace the old and dying plants with colourful summer bedding.

More generosity has come from Dunfermline Round Table with Adam Rintoul and several of his colleagues involved in a tidy-up along the length of the Tower Burn this week. It included litter uplifting and at Wallace's Well moving the soil slippage that has happened over the past few years and is threatening to cover the Well area, back up the slope.

Harry Dunn, chairman of the Friends, said: "The work at the rock garden took quite a few weeks to complete but it means that it's looking like it did in the past.

"All the help that has been given is very much appreciated and it means that the Glen is looking very well at the minute.

"The gardeners have been working very hard these past few months in making it a great green place for the public to enjoy, especially at this time of COVID regulations, when it has been a crucial help in the wellbeing of all."
