A BED settee and shopping trollies were just some of the items discovered during a spruce up of the Lyne Burn in Dunfermline at the weekend.
Two teams of volunteers rolled up their sleeves for the event, which was part of the Lyne Burn project – a Fife Council-led initiative aiming to restore part of the burn, in partnership with SEPA (the Scottish Environment Protection Agency) and Fife Coast and Countryside Trust.
The Dunfermline Soroptimists undertook a litter-pick and burn-clean in Touch to celebrate the UN's World Environment Day, while a group of volunteers including local councillor Garry Haldane collected litter and cleared the burn in Lyne Burn Park by Blacklaw Road.
"It was a fantastic effort all round, with much litter being retrieved from the burn including multiple shopping trollies," said Cllr Haldane. "A great way to mark Volunteers Week too!
"It wasn’t that long ago I led a group who hauled a huge amount out of the same area so it is disappointing to have as much as we did, admittedly not as much but still a huge amount.
"There is still a bed settee at the bottom of the bridge which some irresponsible adults have just thrown over. It really is disgusting that people think this is OK, especially when so much emphasis is being put on the damage fly-tipping is doing to our environment."
