COUNCILLORS have agreed to shed some more light on Transy and Baldridgeburn with £59,000 for new lampposts.

The two projects in Dunfermline have been waiting years for funding, which was finally approved recently.

More 'traditional' lampposts will be installed in the conservation area of Transy, at an extra cost of £30,000, while £29,000 will help light up a path at Bull Park.

At the City of Dunfermline area committee, convener Helen Law said: "The conservation area lampposts have been on the agenda almost as long as the Abbey ramp!

"It's taken a long time to get here, it's been really difficult, but I'm pleased we're able to do these projects that have just been waiting on the appropriate funding to come forward."

Each of the seven areas of Fife has been allocated £75,000 a year for two years in the council's 2021-31 capital plan.

Lampposts will be installed on Transy Grove, Transy Place and Park Place.

Cllr Law told the Press: "Right across Dunfermline, the lampposts have been replaced to have lower light pollution – almost every area has been completed – but when it came to the conservation area the local residents and Central Dunfermline Community Council didn't feel the standard ones were appropriate.

"They've always had traditional lampposts but they were going to come at an extra cost, £30,000, so we've finally got an agreement and the money to do it."

She continued: "The lampposts for Bull Park are part of a project that was brought forward by Baldridgeburn and Milesmark Community Council.

"In 2017, we also had capital funding and put money into a lot of local projects but the lampposts for Bull Park were still outstanding.

"There's a link path between Baldridgeburn and Parkneuk that's not lit, it's also used as a walking route to school for children so we were very keen to get that sorted.

"I'm really pleased projects that the community wanted are going ahead.

"There's over £150,000 of capital funding over two years and that's some of it being spent.

"We'll bring forward other projects once they're properly costed."
