PUPILS from Woodmill High's Department for Additional Support (DAS) unit stepped up for a fundraising challenge on Thursday.

Around 42 youngsters took part in a sponsored Race for Life walk to raise money for Cancer Research.

Some came in fancy dress while others wore bright clothing for the event.

Pupil support assistant Jakki O'Neill explained: "We did two walks, a 3K and a 10K, so we challenged the ability of all the children involved but it was something they could achieve and they had a great time.

"The short walk went from Woodmill to the Duloch playpark and for the 10k, they walked up along the Lyne Burn corridor then up round the leisure park and past Amazon.

"The weather was good to us as well – it didn't rain and it wasn't too hot."

Youngsters were sponsored for the event while a raffle arranged as part of the event also raised £600.

"We had a Just Giving page which is at £1,300 and there is still cash coming in," added Jakki.
