THE sound of a lone piper at the Dunfermline War Memorial helped commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion Scotland on Friday.

A ceremony took place at 11am when piper Ronan Gilchrist played the slow air '100 Poppies' which had been composed by a member of the Dunfermline District (RBL Scot) Pipe Band to mark the occasion.

Mr Gilchrist said the event had been a low-key one because of current coronavirus restrictions.

"We were marking the occasion properly," he said. "There were a few people there who seemed to appreciate it.

"It was a chance to remember people and what they have done for our country and we are so grateful for all the support people have given over the last hundred years."
