THE STAGE is set for a group of men to do battle on the golf course and raise money for charity in the process.

In the space of two days and across eight courses, four determined souls will hit shot after shot – from tee to tee – all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Callum Little, his dad Geoff (from Crossgates), Stewart (Stu) Small and Allan Reilly will be up with the larks on Monday as they begin a mammoth task.

The Longest Day Golf challenge has been running for Macmillan for several years but, this year, the guys are doubling down by adding on another day to the already tiring gauntlet.

They have raised around £7,000 in previous outings and have already amassed £1,600 before the first tee this year.

Callum, from Inverkeithing, told the Press that they will start in the early hours of Monday morning at Burntisland before taking on Kinghorn, Thornton and Kirkcaldy to round off day one.

Then, on Tuesday, it's off to St Andrews – the home of golf – to face the St Michael's, Kittocks, Dukes and Torrance courses.

During those two days and 144 holes per person, they will each walk around 55 miles, hit around 800 shots and burn 15,000 calories; the number of golf balls lost could be limitless, they fear.

With their handicaps ranging from four to 28, the guys are by no means professionals but they will be playing for the highest of honours.

Callum explained: "We've bought this £3 trophy that is barely held together for the winner, and we've actually also bought a replica Masters jacket for the awards ceremony.

"We'll be kitted out in Royal & Awesome stuff so people will definitely see us on the courses! We're all looking forward to it and we're all idiots for thinking it's a good idea.

"All the clubs have been great with us and told members that we'll be taking on the challenge. Paul (Wytrazek, the club pro at Burntisland) e-mailed members and we've had donations in already, so we have to think him and all the other clubs for allowing us to do this."
