DUNFERMLINE's young athletes continue to excel on the national stage with stunning results recorded in a national competition.

Back in May, Scottish Athletics offered clubs the chance to organise and compete remotely, mainly on training nights, for a 'virtual' Superteams Challenge.

The event, for under-12 athletes, was set up to combine four events: 75 metres sprint, 600m endurance, long jump and overhead throw.

Dunfermline Track and Field Club (DTFC) entered five teams as they sought to continue the club's fine tradition in multi-event competitions.

With 60 girls' teams and more than 50 boys' teams competing across 15 clubs, DTFC were overjoyed with their success during the challenge.

The DTFC boys' A team finished first, with the B team in 11th.

In the individual boys' scores, the top two places in Scotland were occupied by two DTFC athletes in the form of Charlie Hunter and Bradley Moffat.

Meanwhile, the girls' A team came seventh and the B team placed 18th.

Overall, the story was also very successful with the two highest boy scorers and two highest girl scorers making up the overall mixed club team and DTFC finished in third spot.

There were some excellent individual performances as well with the winning boys' A team leading the way.

Bradley Moffat was flying in his 60m sprint, coming first overall in 10.8 seconds while finishing eighth overall in his long jump with a leap of 3.7 metres.

Charlie Hunter, however, was the DTFC boys' A team’s highest points-scorer, coming in second behind his team-mate, Bradley, in the 60m sprint in 11.0secs, producing an excellent long jump of 4.154m to finish second and he also was second in his overall throw with 15.3m.

These boys were well supported by Lucas Alexander and Sean Asamoah, who contributed vital points for the team to secure a third-place finish overall.

The highlight for Lucas was 16th spot in the long jump with a leap of 3.5m while Sean netted a ninth spot in the 60m in 11.33secs and also produced an excellent long jump to finish fifth with a jump of 3.8m.

The boys' B team finished 11th with Gregor Fraser leading the individual points-scoring. His highlight was a 14th spot in the overhead throw of 11.0m while his team-mates were also contributing with points for the team.

Finlay Gaughan was 23rd in the long jump with a leap of 3.36m while Jayden McKay and Lochlan Walker shone in the 600m races with Jayden 20th in 2 minutes, 9 seconds, and Lochlan 31st in 2:12.

There were two members of a boys' C team with Luke Hamilton and Innes Barnett just short of a couple of team-mates. Both boys produced some excellent performances with Luke jumping 2.90m and Innes 2.41m in the long jump.

The girls' A team finished an excellent seventh with Caitlin Chambers just edging out Macey Wainwright in the overall points-scoring for the team, although the point-scoring in this team was extremely tight with only 14 points separating first and fourth.

Best individual performances were a fifth spot with 3.34m in the long jump for Caitlin, a 31st place in the 600m from Macey in 2:15, and an 11th and 18th finish respectively for Freya Kiernan and Holly Lynas with 3.24m and 3.00m.

The girls' B team were also well in the mix with an 18th-place finish overall with again the individual points very close.

Poppy Warner just led the way with an excellent 2:05 in the 600m, seeing her 10th overall in that event. Sophie Jenkinson ran a brilliant 60m in 11.4secs and Lottie Thomas 11.5secs to secure fourth and fifth spots in the 60m while Lucy Gibb long-jumped an excellent 2.67m.

The girls' C team were one team member short which cost them in the overall team event but that didn’t deter them from some excellent performances. Lily Pritchard topped their points, helped by a long jump of 3.23m with Anna Stobie just behind her in 2.60m. Sophie Still’s highlight was an overhead throw of 8.50m.

The mixed team consisted of Charlie Hunter, Bradley Moffat, Caitlin Chalmers and Macey Wainwright, who were the top two boys' and girls' scorers, respectively.

This team secured a third place overall just edged out by Haddington AC and Victoria Park Glasgow.

A DTFC spokesperson said: "All our young athletes can be very proud of their contributions to what was a hugely-successful event for the club aided as usual by our superb coaches and helpers."
