PITREAVIE AAC athletes have been putting on their spikes and running to success at recent events.

Club members won a number of 'virtual' podium places in the East District 4J Studios Running Together Apart competition, which attracted competitors from across Scotland.

They were encouraged to take part in multi-disciplinary track and field events, organised by their local athletics clubs, during May, which gave them valuable competition time having been out of action for a while.

The results were collated in district level leaderboards and a number of top placings were achieved.

Under-15 athlete Aaliyah McCloud was one of those to secure a first-place finish, which came in the 100 metres, thanks to an impressive time of 12.60 seconds and was followed by under-17 runner Rebecca Grieve, in the 200m, who posted a time of 25.20.

Another under-17 runner, Erin Macfarlane, in the 800m, achieved a similar placing with a time of 2:18.10, which she went on to better at the BMC (British Milers Club) Manchester Sportcity Grand Prix on May 29 with 2:14.20.

Under-15 runner Laurie Hunter claimed a second place in the female long jump, with a distance of 4.62 metres, while Lily Simon, of the same age group, also finished second in the high jump, thanks to an effort of 1.43m.

Under-17 athlete Rory Voss (pictured) was first in the male 200m in 23.10, which he went on to improve on at the Trafford Sprints Grand Prix on June 8 with a time of 22.69, before he went on to better that time still further at Meadowmill, East Lothian, with an effort of 21.10.

In the same age group, Caleb McLeod was first in the male 400m with a time of 53.30, which he improved upon at an event in Grangemouth by 0.13 seconds, while Fergus MacGilp was third in the same event in 54.40.

A fine set of results for Pitreavie was completed by under-15 runner Rachel Johnston, whose time of 16.80 saw her place third in the 75m hurdles.
