A 23-YEAR-OLD man drove the wrong way up a Rosyth dual carriageway at twice the speed limit in a bid to escape the police.

The “ridiculous” driving of Brandon Naismith was slammed by a sheriff.

Naismith, formerly of Mitchell Walk, Rosyth, and now of Macbeth Road, Dunfermline, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted previously that on November 14, in Kings Crescent, Kings Road, Albert Street and Kings Park, Rosyth, he drove dangerously, at excessive speeds and travelled on the opposing carriageway, forcing an oncoming vehicle to take evasive action.

In Kings Crescent, he failed to stop for police.

He also admitted that he was driving without insurance.

Depute fiscal Laura McManus said police on patrol had carried out a computer check on Naismith’s vehicle and found it was not insured.

They activated their blue lights and sirens but Naismith failed to stop. He was then pursued by the police and he drove up Kings Road north on the southbound carriageway at 60mph, twice the speed limit.

Twice, the police vehicle made “tactical contact” with his car before he finally stopped. The police car went up against the side of the driver’s door to prevent him escaping.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “He panicked, he drove off and he’s sorry.”

Sheriff Alastair Brown noted from the social work report that Naismith admitted taking large quantities of drugs regularly as well as alcohol.

The sheriff commented: “He drove in a ridiculous way around Rosyth and to my certain knowledge people have been killed on that road in the past.”

The sheriff deferred sentence again until July 29 for a restriction of liberty assessment.
