SHOPPERS in Dunfermline are being urged to donate food to help support children and families across the UK this summer.

A summer food collection is taking place from today (Thursday) to Saturday at Tesco Duloch and Tesco Fire Station.

Customers are being urged to donate a variety of long-life foodstuffs to help FareShare supply thousands of community groups.

Donations will also help the Trussell Trust’s network of food banks who provide emergency parcels to families in crisis.

Tesco say they will provide an "extra little help" by topping up donations by 20 per cent to assist the two charities.

In addition to the collection in large stores, Tesco Express stores will be collecting donations throughout the summer from July 12 to August 28.

Earlier this month, the Dunfermline Press held its Dunfermline Foodbank appeal which saw a special bag included in every edition of the paper.

Readers were asked to to fill it up as much as possible to help the organisation which has five centres across South West Fife, including Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Rosyth, Benarty and Cowdenbeath.
